Every story has a beginning. In the world of comic books and superhero movies, we call them origin stories, how dashing and courageous heroes rose from obscurity to become icons of justice and goodness. Just the same, the Biblical story has a beginning in acts of Creation, acts of divine call, acts of trust, and acts of justice.
Beginning on Rally Day, September 7, our new sermon series launches this year’s Narrative Lectionary, a scheduled readings of scripture that help us better understand the Bible and take us on a journey from Genesis to Easter and beyond.
A few highlights to expect:
- Creation is designed to be good. What does it mean to be good?
- God calls regular people to do risky and strange things and go to a risky and strange places.
- You never know when the Spirit will rouse you into action for the sake of others.
- We will learn God’s sacred name, rooted in justice.
Alongside these stories, we will look at some popular recent movies, like this past summer’s Superman film, and consider how the beginnings of these iconic stories and characters say something powerful about the kind of world we long for.
Worship begins every Sunday, in person and online, at 10 AM PST.
